John Lennon And His Parents

John Lennon wrote this music to express his feelings about his parents.  His father abandoned the family when John was a child. Julia Lennon, John’s mother, was not so present in his life, since he was raised by his aunt.  But Julia taught her son how to play the banjo and ukulele, and bought his first acoustic guitar, even though her eldest sister strongly disapproved.

He lost his mother when he was 17 years old.  A drunk-driving, off-duty policeman ran her over in a crosswalk.

This tragical death traumatized Lennon.  He was inspired to write the song Mother after undergoing primal therapy with Dr Arthur Janov.

Mother, you had me
But I never had you
I wanted you
But you didn’t want me
So
I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye
Goodbye

Father, you left me
But I never left you
I needed you
But you didn’t need me
So
I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye
Goodbye

Children, don’t do
What I have done
I couldn’t walk
And I tried to run
So
I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye
Goodbye

Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
