Dove has just released a new campaign called “Selfie”, similar to “Real Beauty Sketches” where the participants find out their disliked characteristics are exactly what others consider to be the most beautiful.
In “Selfie”, beauty specialists go to a high school and ask teenagers to describe what they do not like about themselves. It’s interesting because lots of teen girls have lots of self-esteem problems, and don’t like to talk about them. The girls are then asked to take selfies that concentrate on their “imperfections”. The selfies are exposed in a small gallery, where observers post comments describing exactly how gorgeous the girls are. Then, obviously, the young ladies recognize they are in fact more beautiful than they think they are.
This new ad is in partnership with the Sundance Institute, directed by Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Cynthia Wade and produced by Sharon Liese.
